GrandmaCane Privacy Policy

Last Updated: September 15, 2026

GrandmaCane is a private, invitation-only family website created to help family members communicate, share photographs and videos, and preserve family memories.

GrandmaCane is not an advertising platform and does not exist to collect or monetize personal information. This Privacy Policy explains what information may be collected when you use GrandmaCane, how that information is used, and who may have access to it.

1. Information You Provide

When you use GrandmaCane, you may provide information such as:

  • Your name and profile information
  • Your email address
  • Your profile and cover photographs
  • Posts and comments
  • Photographs and videos
  • Private messages
  • Photo albums
  • Other information or files you choose to share

Additional types of content may become available as GrandmaCane develops.

2. Account Information

GrandmaCane stores information necessary to create and maintain your account.

This may include your name, email address, username or other internal account identifier, password information, account settings, and other information required by the website software.

Passwords should be stored in a protected form rather than as readable plain text. However, users are responsible for choosing a secure password and keeping it private.

3. Information Collected Automatically

Like most websites, GrandmaCane and its hosting infrastructure may automatically collect certain technical information when you visit the site.

This may include information such as:

  • IP address
  • Browser and device information
  • Dates and times of access
  • Pages or resources requested
  • Login and session information
  • Server and error logs
  • Cookies and similar information necessary for the website to function

This information may be used to operate, secure, troubleshoot, maintain, and improve GrandmaCane.

4. Cookies and Sessions

GrandmaCane may use cookies or similar browser storage to keep users signed in, maintain sessions, remember settings, and provide other basic website functionality.

These technologies are used to operate the website, not to build advertising profiles.

Blocking required cookies may prevent some GrandmaCane features from working properly.

5. How Your Information Is Used

Information stored by GrandmaCane may be used to:

  • Provide and maintain your account
  • Display content you choose to share
  • Allow family members to communicate with one another
  • Operate features such as posts, comments, photographs, videos, albums, search, and private messages
  • Maintain the security and reliability of the website
  • Diagnose and repair technical problems
  • Prevent abuse or unauthorized access
  • Back up and restore the website
  • Develop and improve GrandmaCane

GrandmaCane does not use your information to create advertising profiles.

6. Who Can See Your Content

GrandmaCane is intended to be accessible only to authorized users.

Content you post may be visible to other GrandmaCane members depending on the feature being used and any privacy or access settings associated with that content.

Private messages are intended for their participants rather than the general GrandmaCane community.

However, users should understand that no website can guarantee that information will never be copied, photographed, downloaded, screenshotted, or redistributed by someone who is able to view it.

Please share accordingly.

7. Administrative Access

Operating a privately hosted website sometimes requires administrative access to the website, database, files, logs, backups, and hosting environment.

As a result, the GrandmaCane administrator may technically be capable of accessing information stored by the website, including information that is not normally visible through the public-facing interface.

Administrative access should be used only when reasonably necessary for purposes such as:

  • Website administration
  • Technical support and troubleshooting
  • Security and abuse prevention
  • Backup and recovery
  • Account management
  • Investigating a reported problem
  • Compliance with applicable legal obligations

GrandmaCane does not promise that information stored on the server is technically inaccessible to the site administrator or hosting provider.

8. Private Messages

GrandmaCane provides private messaging between users.

Private messages are intended to be viewed by their participants and are not displayed as ordinary public posts.

However, because messages are stored using GrandmaCane's underlying software and hosting infrastructure, users should not assume that private messages have end-to-end encryption or that they are technically inaccessible to a server administrator.

Do not use GrandmaCane private messages to store passwords, financial account information, Social Security numbers, or other information requiring a highly secure communications system.

9. Photographs and Videos

Photographs and videos uploaded to GrandmaCane may be stored on the website's server and included in backups.

Other authorized users may be able to view, save, or download media that has been shared with them.

Please use particular care when sharing photographs or videos of children or other people who may not have personally chosen to share the material.

10. Family Documents and Archival Material

GrandmaCane may eventually provide features for storing family documents, historical records, recipes, photographs, and other archival material.

If these features are introduced, such material may be stored on GrandmaCane's servers and included in backups.

GrandmaCane should not be used as the only copy of an irreplaceable family document. Important original files should also be preserved elsewhere.

11. Backups

GrandmaCane may create backups of website files, databases, photographs, videos, messages, and other stored information.

Backups exist to protect the website against accidental deletion, technical failure, corruption, security incidents, or other data loss.

Because backups represent historical copies of the website, information deleted from the live site may remain in a backup for some period of time until that backup is replaced or deleted.

12. Sharing Information With Outside Parties

GrandmaCane does not sell users' personal information.

GrandmaCane does not sell or rent user information to advertisers.

Information may nevertheless be processed or stored by third parties that are technically necessary to operate the website, such as the web-hosting provider or other infrastructure providers.

Information may also be disclosed when reasonably necessary to comply with applicable law, a valid legal requirement, protect the security of GrandmaCane, or protect the rights or safety of users or others.

13. External Services

GrandmaCane may occasionally rely on software, hosting services, or other technology provided by third parties.

Those providers may process limited information necessary to provide their services.

If GrandmaCane later adds integrations with additional outside services, this Privacy Policy may be updated to describe them.

14. Security

Reasonable efforts are made to protect GrandmaCane and the information stored on it.

However, no website, server, database, backup system, or Internet connection can be guaranteed to be completely secure.

Users should therefore avoid storing exceptionally sensitive information on GrandmaCane and should maintain independent copies of important or irreplaceable material.

15. Children and Family Accounts

Because GrandmaCane is a private family community, some invited users may be minors.

Parents or guardians should consider what information their children share and may contact the administrator regarding concerns involving a minor's account or content.

GrandmaCane is not intended as a public service directed toward children or as a means of collecting children's information for advertising or commercial purposes.

16. Account and Content Removal

If you no longer wish to use GrandmaCane, you may ask the site administrator to disable or remove your account.

You may also contact the administrator regarding content you have uploaded.

Deleting an account may not automatically delete every post, comment, photograph, message, or other contribution associated with the account, particularly when that material forms part of conversations or shared family content.

Information that has been removed from the live website may also temporarily remain in backups.

17. Data Retention

GrandmaCane may retain information for as long as reasonably necessary to operate the website, maintain family content, provide requested features, protect the security and integrity of the site, maintain backups, or meet applicable legal obligations.

Because GrandmaCane is partly intended to preserve family memories, some content may naturally be retained for long periods unless it is deleted or removal is requested.

18. Changes to This Privacy Policy

GrandmaCane will continue to evolve, and this Privacy Policy may change as new features are introduced or existing features change.

If significant changes are made to how personal information is handled, reasonable efforts will be made to notify users.

The date at the top of this policy indicates when it was most recently updated.

19. Questions or Privacy Concerns

Questions about this Privacy Policy, your account, your information, or a privacy concern should be directed to the GrandmaCane site administrator.

In short: GrandmaCane exists so our family can communicate and preserve memories—not to collect data about you, advertise to you, or sell your information. What you share stays within the family community as much as GrandmaCane can reasonably control, but remember that other family members can copy what they can see, administrators may have technical access to information stored on the server, and no website can promise perfect security.
